Founded 2021 in Lindau, Germany, the quartet delivers Deathcore with a strong influence of classic Death Metal. Fast riffing meets groovy breakdowns, biting vocals and singing lead guitars. Solitude, manipulation, addiction – dive into the worlds of the remnants, the sacrifices the lake has asked.
With their debut EP “DROWN”, the Remnants lay the foundation for their contribution to the Deathcore scene. With five songs, they present themselves in a diverse way and musically as well as technically adept. The powerful sound drives songs like “Drown”, “Tortured to Death” and “Desire” directly onto the eardrums. Live, the guys convince with a tight and energetic performance. More can be expected here – soon the Remnants want to release their first full-length album!

The foundation for the “Remnants of Suffering” project was laid in 2021 in the midst of the pandemic, when Dan (vocals), Val (drums), Olli (guitar, formerly thrasher with Skulled) and Marius (guitar) came together for the first time in a Lindau rehearsal room. The declared goal was to play metal covers together and thus escape the desolation of the lockdowns.
After a short time, a common musical language emerged, with songs from Blood Youth, Whitechapel to After the Burial. So it was clear that it shouldn’t be all with the covers – the birth of the first EP “DROWN”. The cover songs were cast away and with “Tortured to Death”, “House of God” and the later title song “Drown” the songwriting became fruitful.
On June 6, 2023, “DROWN” finally saw the light of day – with success: Just two days after its release, Remnants of Suffering played their debut gig together with Unredd (Konstanz, Germany), Call of Charon (Duisburg, Germany) and All Life Ends (St. Gallen, Switzerland) in Radolfzell, Germany. “DROWN” also exceeded all expectations online: Within a few days, the audience on Spotify grew to around 100 people.
Thematically, the band finds itself above all where suffering has to be overcome. From historical events, social conflicts to personal experiences, there are practically no limits to the human abysses. Lyrically, the common thread on “DROWN” is the theme of loneliness, which is experienced in different ways. But it is precisely the compulsive attempt to escape them that only causes further suffering. Addiction, violence, religious fanaticism, but also intrapersonal struggles are relentlessly depicted.
With this in mind, the name of the band is well chosen. Remnants of Suffering is both a critical allusion to a fanatical Christian orientation and to the dead of Lake Constance, who experienced different kinds of suffering on their way to the depths of the lake. In the sense of the manifold pain that everyone carries within themselves in their own individual way, the fans and the musicians themselves briefly refer to themselves as the “Remnants”.

After the release is before the release! Following this credo, the Remnants are already working on new material in order to release their first full-length album soon. The Remnants also want more live – to deliver you with the finest Deathcore!

Der Grundstein für das Projekt „Remnants of Suffering“ wurde 2021 inmitten der Pandemie gelegt, als Dan (Vocals), Val (Drums), Olli (Gitarre, ehemals Thrasher bei Skulled) und Marius (Gitarre) zum ersten Mal in einem Lindauer Proberaum zusammenkamen. Das erklärte Ziel war, gemeinsam Metal-Cover zu spielen und so der Ödnis der Lockdowns zu entkommen.
Nach kurzer Zeit kristallisierte sich eine gemeinsame musikalische Sprache heraus, mit Songs von Blood Youth, über Whitechapel bis hin zu After the Burial. Damit war klar, dass es mit den Covern nicht alles sein sollte – die Geburtsstunde der ersten EP „DROWN“. Die Coversongs verschwanden in der Schublade und mit „Tortured to Death“, „House of God“ und dem späteren Titelsong „Drown“ spielte sich das Songwriting wirkungsvoll ein.
Am 06. Juni 2023 erblickte schließlich „DROWN“ das Licht der Welt – mit Erfolg: Gleich zwei Tage nach Veröffentlichung spielten Remnants of Suffering ihren Debut-Gig gemeinsam mit Unredd (Konstanz), Call of Charon (Duisburg) und All Life Ends (St. Gallen, Schweiz) in Radolfzell am Bodensee. Auch online übertraf „DROWN“ jede Erwartung: Innerhalb weniger Tage wuchs die Hörerschaft auf Spotify auf Rund 100 Personen an.
Thematisch findet sich die Band vor allem dort wieder, wo es Leid zu überwinden gilt. Von geschichtlichen Ereignissen, gesellschaftlichen Konflikten bis hin zu persönlichen Erfahrungen, den menschlichen Abgründen sind praktisch keine Grenzen gesetzt. Lyrisch ist der rote Faden auf „DROWN“ das Thema Einsamkeit, welche auf verschiedene Weisen erlebt wird. Doch gerade der zwanghafte Versuch dieser zu entkommen verursacht nur weiteres Leid. Sucht, Gewalt, religiöser Fanatismus, aber auch intrapersonelle Kämpfe werden schonungslos dargestellt.
Vor diesem Hintergrund ist der Name der Band treffend gewählt. Remnants of Suffering – zu Deutsch “Überbleibsel des Leidens” – ist sowohl eine kritische Anspielung auf eine fanatische christliche Ausrichtung wie auch auf die Toten des Bodensees, denen auf dem Weg in die Tiefen des Sees unterschiedliches Leid widerfahren ist. Im Sinne des vielfältigen Leidens, das jeder auf seine individuelle Art in sich trägt, bezeichnen die Fans und die Musiker selbst sich kurz auch als die „Remnants“.

Nach dem Release ist vor dem Release! Gemäß diesem Motto arbeiten die Remnants bereits an neuem Material, um schon bald ihr erstes full-length-Album auf den Markt zu bringen. Auch Live wollen die Remnants mehr – um Euch feinsten Deathcore zu präsentieren!
